SUMPOORNA ANNUAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE FOR UNDER 15 YEARS 2010 - I WILL STAND ON COURT FROM DAWN TO DUSK!

A MATCH TEACHES WHAT A YEAR LONG TRAINING PROGRAMME CANNOT! But young players get traumatised too! Or they get head weight - that they know enough already. Both the situations aren't right. It is important that any learning programme should provide opportunity to learn as well as the right court behaviour - for then only it would have a meaning. Sitting on bench as team - yet not getting the `time' to play; isn't also suitable for young children.

SUMPOORNA annual basketball league addresses these concerns. FORTY BOYS AND FORTY GIRLS will be formed into 8 teams each - they may be `school teams' or they may be a `friendly group'. Each player would pay an annual registration fee which would take care of the `uniform' - `track suit' and other administrative expenses. Different basketball courts would be used at different locations. Convenience of the players would be top priority - the playing environment would be `child friendly'. For any player wanting to register the following THREE are important:

1. Total parental support.
2. Personal desire to `learn and play'
3. Impeccable behaviour.

Registration forms would be available from our office as per address given below. You may also call me up for any clarifications. Up to TWO PLAYERS per team maybe registered as stand by students. Training programmes would be organized as and when feasible. We will also invite `basketball dignataries' and `club officials' to pick up children for playing `official tournaments of basketball'.

Registrations are offered on first come first served basis - but anyway the last date is 12th April, 2009. Any player born on or after 1-6-1995 is eligible. We reserve the right to de-register any player at any time without giving any reason whatsoever.

HOOP MANIA HAS BEGUN. BE A PART OF THE INDIAN BASKETBALL REVOLUTION! This league is promoted by a person who has made `sports education' as his mission of life and has innovated projects like A.S.H.A. - ASHATHON - A.B.L.E and now through SUMPOORNA provides opportunity to rural children for learning the game. At present he is the coach of VIDYARANYAPURA SPORTS CLUB and available in the ground between 5pm to 6pm.

SUMPOORNA BASKETBALL LEAGUE FOR GIRLS

SUMPOORNA BASKETBALL LEAGUE FOR GIRLS will be played between 26th Dec to 1st of Jan. It will be a unique event where EIGHT TEAMS OF FIVE PLAYERS per team would vie for the top honours. The basketball league is strictly BY INVITATION only and all things being equal preference would be given to SUMPOORNA STUDENTS. IT IS A RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMME to be conducted at SUMPOORNA BASKETBALL SCHOOL's campus at a village near Tumkur [90 Kms from Bangalore and only those students who bring consent letters from their parents are eligible. Food, accomodation and all transportation charges will be borne by us.

The following notes may help:

1. The objective is to promote EXCELLENCE IN BASKETBALL.
2. Senior volunteers of SUMPOORNA will be involved in officiating and guiding the
league and no outsiders are permitted either as spectators or as visitors.
3. SUMPOORNA `code of conduct' is to be strictly followed by all participants.
4. Matches WILL NOT BE PLAYED school-wise but teams would be formed by organizers.
5. All the 40 players will have to stay till the end of the programme.
6. Confirmation of participants has to be completed by 23-12-2009. 5 stand by
students names would also be listed - in case some drop out at the last moment.

Parents desiring to send their children will be given details of what to bring after the selection process is completed. Kindly ensure your child is healthy and let us know if we need to know anything specific about your child.

The entire programme is to bring out the best in your child - and to this end, many theory and practical training classes will be conducted during SUMPOORNA BASKETBALL LEAGUE. A STRING OF BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS COMING UP.

For the time that I lost in my ankle injury - I MUST MAKE UP FOR IT. For now the sheet looks like this :

1. 22nd NOVEMBER-AT REGENCY PUBLIC SCHOOL - FOR PRIMARY AND HIGH SCHOOL BOYS AND GIRLS.

2. 28TH AND 29TH NOVEMBER - AT ST. MARY'S GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL, TUMKUR [SUMPOORNA RULES].

3. 6TH DECEMBER - J.N.V. DODDABALLAPUR TOURNAMENT [SUMPOORNA RULES].

4. 13 - 14 DECEMBER - V.S.C. LEAGUE MATCHES or J.N.V. URDIGERE [SUMPOORNA RULES].

The tournaments are STRICTLY by invitation. Contact 98860 20145 at least 3-4 days before the tournament to get the invitation.

WHY NO TOURNAMENTS?

The Sargantine Basketball tournament was postponed because of my `foot injury' [almost getting back to normal now]. After that most of the players have been busy in `something or the other activities'. Holidays have been fixed in such a way that there is hardly any `suitable date' for the tournaments.

I think this is God's way of giving me rest. Even camps were rescheduled again and again. AND NOW THE RAINS!

I love rains - the rivers from the skies open up to give us much needed water - only sometimes the God forgets to turn off the tap. Even regular practice sessions are being held rarely what to talk of tournaments.

SO - we have to wait. My healing foot probably needs another week or so.

SARGANTINE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT IS POSTPONED.

It is very unfortunate, but during one of my practice sessions, I got an ankle injury and I have been advised TWO WEEKS rest by the Doctor. So the Bishop Sargant tournament is now postponed to next month. New dates will be announced later on.

`NO ENTRY FEE' BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS IN TUMKUR AND BANGALORE

SUMPOORNA is conducting `no entry fee' basketball tournaments in Tumkur and Bangalore. If you want to play `fun basketball' then contact me on 98860 20145 or if you want to organize it in your institution - WE WILL SUPPORT YOUR TOURNAMENT!

SARGANTINE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT ON 21ST AND 22ND AUGUST, 2009

The format will be the usual categories - V standard - VI & VII standard - VIII standard - IX & X standard - P.U. If time constraints donot trouble us, we will give more playing time for close matches.

SOME ADDITIONAL `fun tournament' like 3-on-3 with limitations could be planned. The last sunday of August could be used for TUMKUR BASKETBALL LEAGUE.

Due to fever - I haven't done much in the last 4 days. I hope to get my batteries charged up by tomorrow. I would like to stay this SAT-SUN in Bangalore and maybe get an INDEPENDENCE CUP also done.
